During the middle of 2016 whilst reminiscing over London Fashion Week's behind the scenes' plethora of photo journals, Yu Fujiwara's -otherwise known as his Instagram/Dazed pseudonym @8and2- camera lens captured two utterly unique models whom go by the names of Liene Podina and Tina Veshaguri. Dormanting my attention was the array of distinctive features Podina engrosses. Over a year ago, I meditated alongside Podina such premises such as noire-fashion, tonal influences and partaking in trailblazing fashion shows. (Above: Liene's street style)
"It's amazing to witness the hard work make up artists and hairstylists do to create the vision of the designer, the whole process is a rewarding experience, that makes you appreciate that you've been chosen to be part of this whole picture."
Podina writes in her exchanges towards the query of rewards of working with the fashion house Givenchy.
"It was like a childhood dream to do this show. I was very happy to meet the person whose creations have inspired my own drawings and since I consider myself an artist, to be able to meet these amazingly talented people, it is a gift."
Entertainment isn't Podina's focus and the fashion houses whom hire her, don't skew too far from that notion. (Left: VETEMENTS)
Fast forward to her contemporary achievements, she stars alongside her alien-like sister Tina Veshaguri in Rick Owens' CFDA Lifetime Achievement award short-film in Nevada's stark desert short-film. Out of sight, out of hand. (Below: Rick Owens' short-film)
MAY THE BRIDGES SHE BURN LIGHT HER WAY
Demna Gvasalia's VETEMENTS (pronounced: Vet Ma.) is an anti-fashion, fashion house. Demarcating themselves vividly from coat maker legends Makintosh and other couture brands, the latter draw a vast assimilation to Podina's personal style. "I get inspired a lot by music, so the things I wore during this fashion week was a mix between different periods. It was a bit from Rolling stones, bit from Billy Idol, punk ,a bit from Japanese fashion, and my significant other inspires me a lot too." Podina's favorite musical artists range from Lykke Li to Portishead.
Enveloping Podina's personality, attitude and workload into a singular conception would be precision. Bluntness while striding in a pair of heels that replace stiletto's with a lighter is no joke. You can visit her work over here.
