It was around eight in the morning on a Saturday when Valeria and I scheduled our interview back in December which now seems like an eternity ago. Yet the time between then and now has given me an insight into what makes Valeria stand out in the sea of models within the Israeli market and not exclusively as a model but also as a person; remember models are people?
"What's the Witch Night?" exclaims Valeria from the other end of the table on hazy December day underneath the bleak skies. The setting is wintery but our moods are good, we're both fans of winter. The Witch Night has nothing to do with fashion but is rather an event I play didgeridoo on a bi-yearly basis. She did her research, all of a sudden I'm in front of the camera, is there an insanely beautiful Nardwaur in front of me? It shows a lot about her personality that investigation and research is part of the process whether it's about a job or factual news.
Lauren is taller than the rest of the flock at an honourable one hundred and seventy nine centimeters. Her eyelids are angled a bit over her brown retinas on a palette of freckles and pitch perfect eyebrows. Valeria is chameleon if her job is a swimsuit campaign, you know the ones that have red lipstick and fake eyelids in a swimming pool or a commercial abroad for a new camera that film in a thousand degrees, she morphs her expressions quite professionally and effortlessly.
"After all that time, I realized I missed the camera's click and working in front of it."
It had been around a year since my last interview and I was realizing a common ground to people in the fashion industry, we're unplugged from the nine to five commonality of Western society, we hate it and love it simultaneously. Valeria is a freelance model which means she manages herself, being a model booker myself, I know that most models have no idea how to get to their casting using Google Maps but her skillset is more maintained than getting on the Picadilly Line, she's an army officer. Put your thoughts aside regarding the premise of the army and think for a moment how much blood, sweat and tears have driven Valeria towards being an officer and it translates into civilian life.
Valeria gets married a lot meaning she does a lot of bridal catalogues for small-medium companies all over Israel and is familiar with the vows. She's a social media figure on Instagram and Facebook and has a tendency not to be quiet about the issues she finds important like veganism and feminism. It's a ballsy move especially with such polarized opinions in our primitive Israeli society when it comes to religious secularity and moral relativism, but she doesn't give a fuck, or rather, does give a fuck. Her feed is an array of her work, jokes, paid posts (you can tell by the banal copy over the image) and sometimes booty pictures, which bring engagement and creeps.
Lauren's mindset isn't a hard cup full or empty rather the cup has water so lets drink it and she is thirsty and driven towards success. She's active on most groups for fashionistas and maintains an Instagram that can be equated to Reuters. You can find Valeria on Instagram.
