Oksana Gedroit Jager is an internationally acclaimed model that’s been the forefront model of various high fashion powerhouses such as Calvin Klein, Michael Kors and Balenciaga and her career starts off from the Baltic country of Lithuania.
“I started modelling at the age of twenty” Jager responds on the other end of the Skype call we held back in May in between a campaign photoshoot, amidst a busy day in New York City. Kicking off her career as a professional model with Balenciaga’s runway in Milan, Jager’s first casting set her off on a road of high fashion lookbooks, runways and editorials. Jager's name would probably be unknown to the casual fashionista but her aesthetic is embedded all over the commercial fashion world and even more retrospective editorial magazines like L’OFFICIAL.
Current day, Oksana is represented by none other than IMG Worldwide and is commissioned for clients all over the world ranging from Tokyo to Milan and New York City. Coming from a small Baltic state known for its model-like beauty alongside the side of Latvia, Jager’s introduction into the business took some time due to the pre-convinced stereotypes by society about being a model and fashion industry, but those are aged arguments about notions assimilated to models and her campaigns speak the opposite of those claims.
While Oksana’s height is “only” 5”9 she’s been commissioned by Michal Kors as a presenter on his campaigns both online and offline. During one of her fashion weeks Christopher Bailey (Burberry) warranted a dress just for her on his runway presentation. Acts like these by top designers show that Jager’s (early then) professionalism alongside her beauty captured a trained designer’s eye that she isn’t just another brick in the wall.
Instagram is probably many models’ LinkedIn, while some models even get scouted through it but a small section use it professionally. Jager’s social media shows many parts of a positive personality in the world of high fashion, there’s no hints of the ever so popular sad girl (queue Molly Blair) pictures on her feed, scrolling through you get a sense similar to the likes of slow-living magazines. With models such as Jager working high commercialised fashion and eclectic designers such as Raf Simmons moving into Calvin Klein fashion thrives, these situations create a new form of aesthetic the creative director and models shape.
